Community-based Therapy
We offer a variety of options for community-based therapy sessions 1) to address specific therapy goals, 2) to facilitate real-life exposure exercises, and 3) to provide alternative options for child, adolescent, and adult clients. By integrating therapy into community settings, we can create enhanced therapeutic experiences that allow clients to face real-life challenges in a supportive and guided manner.
Traditional office-based therapy can sometimes limit opportunities for real-world application of therapeutic strategies. Our community-based therapy sessions may involve real-world exposure exercises tailored to individual treatment goals. These sessions are particularly beneficial for clients working through anxiety, trauma, or other mental health concerns or needing to develop certain adaptive skills.
Examples of Community-based Therapy Sessions:
Therapy at the Gym – Engaging in therapy while exercising or walking to integrate movement into treatment and promote mind-body connection.
Exposure to Public Transportation – Gradually overcoming panic symptoms associated with riding the train or bus into the city.
Store Exposure – Rebuilding confidence in grocery shopping at a crowded store, particularly for those experiencing social anxiety or agoraphobia post-pandemic.
Driving After an Accident – Reintroducing driving in a safe, step-by-step manner following a traumatic car accident.
Walking a Dog When Feeling Unsafe – Supporting clients in reclaiming independence and confidence in daily activities like walking a pet.
Children/Teens – Engaging in community activities with children and teens to develop social skills, build confidence and self-esteem, and reduce anxiety.
By conducting therapy in these real-life environments, we help clients build coping skills, reduce avoidance behaviors, and increase overall functioning in everyday situations.
