Therapy Beyond Traditional Settings
Sometimes sitting in a traditional therapy setting doesn’t fully capture what you’re experiencing.
You might feel restless, overwhelmed, or disconnected. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before, but it didn’t quite translate into your everyday life. Or you’re facing challenges that show up outside — in public spaces, during daily routines, or in situations that feel difficult to navigate on your own.
You’re not alone in that.
By stepping outside of a traditional setting, therapy becomes more active, more grounded, and more connected to your real-life experiences. Instead of only talking about challenges, we work within the environments where they actually occur.

Together, we focus on helping you feel more confident, more regulated, and more equipped to navigate everyday situations.
Community-based and nature therapy take place in real-world environments such as parks, walking trails, gyms, stores, schools, or other agreed-upon community locations.
This approach allows therapy to be applied in real time, within the environments where challenges naturally occur. Rather than only talking about situations, we work within them — supporting skill-building, confidence, and meaningful change as it happens.
We offer these services throughout Northwest Indiana and the Fort Wayne area, depending on availability and clinical appropriateness.

We take an integrative, trauma-informed approach that is tailored to your needs, goals, and environment.
This work focuses on understanding patterns as they show up in real time — including how environments, relationships, and past experiences influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
We incorporate attachment, neurobiology, and the mind-body connection while supporting regulation, awareness, and skill-building within real-life contexts.
When appropriate, sessions may include exposure-based interventions, movement between environments, or guided practice of coping strategies in everyday situations.
Our approach integrates evidence-based practices and adapts them to you as an individual — with the goal of reducing distress and creating meaningful, lasting change in your daily life.

It’s normal to have questions about how community-based and nature therapy works. Below are answers to some of the most common questions. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, we’re here to help. Feel free to contact us with your question at [email protected].
In some cases, transportation or movement between locations may be included as part of therapy, such as for exposure exercises or skill-building. This is always optional and only used when clinically appropriate. WellHome Psychology does not operate as a transportation service.
Therapy can take place directly within real-life environments to help clients build confidence and practical coping skills where challenges actually occur. This may include integrating movement through activities like exercising or walking, gradually facing fears such as using public transportation or shopping in crowded stores, and reintroducing tasks like driving after an accident. Clients can also be supported in reclaiming everyday independence, such as walking a dog when feeling unsafe, while children and teens benefit from community-based activities that strengthen social skills and self-esteem. By meeting clients in these settings, therapy reduces avoidance, promotes mind-body connection, and enhances overall functioning in daily life.
Sessions can include walking or movement-based therapy, gradual exposure to environments that feel overwhelming, practicing everyday tasks, or building independence in real-life situations.
Your therapist works alongside you to support skill-building, confidence, and meaningful progress in the moment.
We take steps to protect your privacy by choosing appropriate settings and being mindful of interactions in public spaces. However, community settings may carry a small risk of incidental disclosure, which we review with you in advance.
If an environment becomes unsafe, disruptive, or no longer aligned with therapeutic goals, the therapist may pause, relocate, or end the session. Safety is always the top priority.
Community-based sessions involve real-world environments, which can include factors such as weather, public settings, or movement between locations. We take reasonable precautions to support safety, but some risks cannot be entirely eliminated.
Yes. Your care can be adjusted over time. If community-based therapy no longer feels like the right fit, we can transition to virtual or in-home services.
